INFORMATION

Application Process:

  • Review the Fact Sheet for full information before starting an application.

  • The Letter of Interest (LOI) must be submitted through the grantmaking portal.

  • LOIs are due by July 15 and February 15 each fiscal year. The Request Opportunity window will open approximately 2 months prior to the due date.

  • Upon review of LOIs, some organizations will be invited to continue to the Full Application. 

  • Applicants will be notified by email and by portal message to the organization’s designated contact for both Denials and for Full Application.

  • Organizations may submit one Application per grant cycle.

  • Requests for Capital Projects are by invitation only.

Special Initiatives: ​

The Foundation Board may define and develop targeted grant programs and invite partnerships for special initiatives to effectively address areas of need aligned with Foundation values and priorities.

Grant Terms:

Approved grants come with conditions detailed in grant agreements. Foundation funds are paid out when a project is completed, or based on Foundation award agreements. All grants are structured to ensure the project will be completed, and help the grantee raise the balance of funds needed for project success.

Note: The Foundation will not fund a specific project for more than 3 Grant Cycles. Approved grants come with conditions detailed in grant documents. Foundation funds may be paid out 1) at the start of the project, 2) when a project is completed, or 3) based on award agreements. All grants are structured to ensure the project will be completed and to help the grantee raise the balance of funds needed for project success.

Note: HFF does not accept grant requests from nonprofit Endowments. Indirect funding through endowments is not aligned to the mission or funding strategies of Heistand Family Foundation.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be a nonprofit organization or governmental entity.

(Either have 501 (c) (3) designation or use an approved fiscal agent.)

 

Funding Geography:

Preference is given to funding requests from:

* The Omaha/Council Bluffs metropolitan area

​* Western Iowa within 100 miles of Omaha​
